NYC’s Big Fourth of July Fireworks Return With City Reopening

Fourth of July fireworks are coming back to New York City.

Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Thursday that Macy’s Inc. will revive its annual display from barges along the East River waterfront. Another show will happen afterward in Coney Island.

The return of the usual Independence Day celebrations comes after big gatherings were called off last year when the pandemic was still raging.

The mayor said there will be dedicated areas for those who are fully vaccinated and others for those who aren’t. “This is part of the summer of New York City, the rebirth of New York City,” de Blasio said at a press conference. “We’re so excited about this.”
