Notre Dame Cancels Wake Forest Game Due to New Covid Cases

The University of Notre Dame canceled Saturday’s football game against Wake Forest University after seven student-athletes tested positive for Covid-19.

In total, 13 players are in isolation because of the virus, the school said in a statement issued Tuesday.

“With student-athlete health and safety our primary focus, we will continue to follow our prevention protocols and ongoing testing procedures,” said Brian Kelly, the team’s head coach. “We managed an increase in positivity rates in August, and the players handled it wonderfully.”

In August, the school canceled in-person classes for two weeks amid the outbreak. Students returned to campus at the beginning of September.

Notre Dame’s football team won its first two games of the season and is ranked seventh in this week’s Associated Press poll.
