(Bloomberg) -- New York’s last coal-fired power plant is going dark, part of the state’s aggressive effort to fight climate change.
The 675-megawatt Somerset plant north of Buffalo hasn’t produced power since March 13 and will officially retire Tuesday, according to an emailed statement. Its sister plant north of Ithaca was closed in October and their owner has proposed turning them into data centers.
“The plant has generated electricity for the final time,” plant manager Brian Gregson said in an emailed statement.
