New York AG James Says Cuomo Resignation ‘Closes a Sad Chapter’
(Bloomberg) -- New York Attorney General Letitia James, who issued a damning report last week on Governor Andrew Cuomo’s conduct with women, said his resignation “closes a sad chapter.”
“I thank Governor Cuomo for his contributions to our state,” James said in a statement on Tuesday after Cuomo announced he would step down in 14 days. “We must continue to build on the progress already made and improve the lives of New Yorkers in every corner of the state.” She said New York would be in “good hands” when Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul takes over.
Like Cuomo, James is a Democrat and was once an ally of the governor. Her own name has been floated as a potential gubernatorial candidate.
James’s conclusion that Cuomo sexually harassed 11 women triggered a political crisis for the three-term governor. He still faces possible investigations in four New York counties as well as civil suits by accusers. He has denied wrongdoing.
