More Than 100,000 Saudi Women Vie for 140 Passport Control Jobs
(Bloomberg) -- Saudi Arabia, which is opening up its conservative society, said 107,000 women applied for just 140 vacancies to work in airports and land border-crossings.
It’s the first time the Saudi General Directorate of Passports is recruiting women to work at passport controls, according to an emailed statement. The job carries a military rank.
Saudi Arabia in September said it will allow women to drive from June this year, ending a decades-long ban. In January, female fans attended official soccer matches for the first time.
