Michael Cohen on Trump Backers Storming Capitol: ‘I Told You So’

Michael Cohen feels vindicated. Two years ago, testifying before a Congressional committee, President Donald Trump’s former personal lawyer predicted that if Trump was defeated in 2020, there wouldn’t be a peaceful transfer of power.

Few believed him at the time. Democrats were wary of getting too close to Trump’s former fixer, while Republicans loathed him for turning on Trump, who labeled Cohen a “rat.”

But with the storming of the Capitol in Washington Wednesday by an enraged mob egged on by the president, Cohen’s prediction has come to pass.

Reached by phone Wednesday, while the mayhem at the Capitol was unfolding, Cohen said everything he testified about two years ago was true.

He’s still angry about the way he was treated by Republicans, not one of whom asked him any questions about Trump.

“Shame on each and every Republican who thought it was more important to denigrate me than to heed my warnings,” he said. “And not just one Republican. All of them. They have lost their way and should reconsider running again.”

Cohen’s message now is simple.

“I told you so,” he said.
