McGuireWoods Consulting Hires Prominent Tech-Policy Lobbyist

(Bloomberg) -- McGuireWoods Consulting is the latest lobbying firm to add to its roster in hopes of exerting greater influence over Washington policy and legislation after the midterm elections, which handed Democrats control of the House of Representatives.

Gregory Guice is joining the company as a senior vice president on its federal public-affairs team to tackle issues involving e-commerce, telephone, wireless and cable companies, the firm announced Tuesday.

Guice joins McGuireWoods from Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, a top Washington lobbying firm, where he handled tech policy. Previously, he was director of the Office of Legislative Affairs for the Federal Communications Commission under Democratic Chairman Julius Genachowski and served as a legal counsel to the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

He has lobbied for clients, including Intel Corp., TripAdvisor Inc. and the Small UAV Coalition on drones, that also employ McGuireWoods, according to federal lobbying records.

In December, the firm announced it was hiring Scott Binkley, former executive director of the Republican Lieutenant Governors Association. Binkley focuses on client development, the firm said.

With numerous technology issues, ranging from cybersecurity and intellectual property to antitrust and privacy, expected to occupy lawmakers, some tech companies are also reassessing their Washington lobbying shops.
