McDonald’s Is Expanding Its Test of Beyond Meat’s McPlant Burger

McDonald’s Corp. is expanding its test of the McPlant, a plant-based burger made by Beyond Meat Inc., beginning Feb. 14 in about 600 locations in the San Francisco Bay and Dallas-Fort Worth areas.

The burger will be available for a limited time, while supplies last, the restaurant chain said Thursday in an emailed statement.

Beyond Meat shares rose as much as 6.7% to $67.44 in New York trading, while McDonald’s gained 0.8%.

The U.S. test of McPlant began Nov. 3 in eight locations in Texas, Iowa, Louisiana and California. The plant-based burger has already debuted in parts of Europe, including Sweden, Denmark and the U.K.

Menu items that mimic the taste and feel of meat have become more commonplace on fast-food menus. Yum! Brands Inc.’s KFC restaurants are currently selling a limited-time offer of Beyond Fried Chicken, another product from Beyond Meat.
