A Major Earthquake Hits Off Coast of Chile

(Bloomberg) -- A 6.8-magnitude earthquake -- revised down from 7.2-magnitude earlier -- hit 67 kilometers (42 miles) from Constitucion in southern Chile on Sunday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quake was felt across central and south Chile, swaying buildings in the capital Santiago, though there have been no reports of injuries or damages to basic services, AP said. A cathedral was evacuated in Constitucion, reported AP.

There isn’t a tsunami threat from the earthquake, UNESCO said in an email Sunday.
