Japan Won’t Test Medical Workers on Cruise Ship For Virus
(Bloomberg) -- Japan won’t test medical workers who came in close contact with passengers on the quarantined Diamond Princess cruise ship docked near Tokyo, the NHK broadcaster reported on Sunday.
Doctors and nurses who don’t have symptoms won’t be examined because they have “mastered the technology to prevent infection,” the report said, citing the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare.
Health professionals on board the ship were involved in quarantine work with passengers.
The health ministry will examine 41 state officials who worked on the Diamond Princess after most of them returned to work without being tested, the report said.
China’s National Health Commission reported that more than 1,700 medical workers have been infected by the coronavirus, while at least six have died.
