Israel Says It's Identified Hezbollah Cell in Syrian-Held Golan

(Bloomberg) -- Israel says the Lebanese militant Hezbollah group has set up a secret cell in southern Syria to attack Israeli targets.

The network, which uses Syrian operatives, is led by Ali Musa Daqduq, who was responsible for the abduction and execution of five American servicemen in Iraq in 2007, military spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Jonathan Conricus said. Daqduq’s mission was to collect intelligence on Israeli targets.

“We have a clear message: We’re not going to allow Hezbollah to establish a terrorist infrastructure on the Golan capable of striking Israeli civilians,” Conricus said in a video posted on Twitter. Israel will hold the Syrian government responsible for anything that happens inside Syria aimed at Israel, he added.
