Israel’s Knesset Meetings Canceled After Lawmaker Tests Positive

(Bloomberg) --

Israel’s Knesset canceled meetings and told non-essential workers to stay home after a lawmaker tested positive for coronavirus.

Knesset officials will meet on Thursday morning to discuss what steps to take and will consult with Health Ministry officials, a spokesman for the parliament said.

In the meantime, the Knesset Finance Committee has canceled its deliberation of a bill designed to boost employment following the pandemic crisis. The Interior Affairs and Environment Committee has called off its meeting to discuss monitoring of the Leviathan offshore gas platform’s adherence to pollution regulations.

More than 17,300 cases of coronavirus have been diagnosed in Israel, including 291 fatalities. An upsurge in infections was recorded in recent days, following the easing of restrictions and reopening of most of the economy.
