IOC Says Aims to Deliver ‘Safe, Successful’ Tokyo Games in 2021

(Bloomberg) -- IOC President Thomas Bach says organization committed to staging Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021.

• “We remain very focused on delivering a safe and successful games next year”: Bach at news conference

• Bach says situation changing almost day by day, and it’s “too early” to say what will be the final scenario and approach for the Games

  • “The only thing we can say is that it will be about offering a safe environment for all participants”: Bach
  • Asked if he could envision a Games without fans, like the U.S. Open tennis championships or the NHL and NBA playoffs, Bach says: “We are following very closely how they’re organized and are in contact with many of them to learn more”
• NOTE: The Games were due to be held this year but were postponed for the first time in their history due to the Covid-19 outbreak
