The New Goldman Sachs U.K. Call Center Couldn't Be Less Goldman-Like

(Bloomberg) -- Goldman Sachs Group Inc. has picked a very un-Goldman office for its U.K. retail bank’s first standalone base.

The Wall Street giant is venturing out of London for the first time in its history and will set up an office for its Marcus consumer division at the Caldecotte Lake Business Park on the outskirts of Milton Keynes, about 50 miles north of London. The suburban location is a far cry from site of the mammoth new corporate headquarters in London’s Farringdon district that the company’s investment bankers will move into next year.

The facility, which will initially be fitted out for about 150 employees but has room for more, will serve as a U.K. customer-care center, which helps explain the more modest image projected by the location. Milton Keynes, developed as a new town in the 1960s, was picked from a list of seven cities for its transport links, local workforce and office space, a spokesman said.
