Georgetown Student Who Sued College Over Scandal Drops Case
(Bloomberg) -- A former Georgetown University student dropped a lawsuit seeking to block the school from expelling him after his father bribed a tennis coach to get him admitted as a recruited athlete.
Just days before Adam Semprevivo sued in May, Stephen Semprevivo pleaded guilty to federal charges that he participated in a $400,000 bribery scheme. More than 30 other parents face similar charges of paying bribes to win admission to elite colleges.
“Adam decided to voluntarily dismiss his lawsuit in order to focus on successfully finishing his undergraduate degree and putting this matter behind him,” his lawyer, Mark Zaid, said in a statement.
Stephen Semprevivo, who had served as chief strategy and growth officer at Cydcor LLC, admitted in court that his son didn’t play competitive tennis. He has yet to be sentenced. Adam Semprevivo, who was expelled, was not charged with wrongdoing.
