Black, Ken Griffin Donate to Coronavirus Fight: Donation Tracker

(Bloomberg) -- Response to the spread of the novel coronavirus has been unprecedented. Governments have passed stimulus packages worth trillions of dollars, while companies, public charities, family foundations and individuals have pledged billions more.

Here are some gifts announced since February and aimed at helping fight the Covid-19 pandemic:

$1 billion: Jack Dorsey to help fund relief efforts including to address surge in domestic violence in Los Angeles.

$250 million: Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to develop a vaccine and pay for detection, isolation and treatment efforts, as well as help public health authorities in Africa and South Asia.

$133.7 Million: George Soros’s Open Society Foundations to aid vulnerable populations, protect political freedoms and advance climate-related reforms.

$100 Million: Blue Meridian Partners, whose chairman is Stanley Druckenmiller, is an anchor funder of Project 100, which seeks to raise $100 million in 100 days, in order to give $1,000 cash transfers to 100,000 Fresh EBT users chosen at random. Among Blue Meridian partners are MacKenzie Bezos and Sergey Brin. So far 81,200 families have received gifts.

$100 million: Jeff Bezos to Feeding America, which will distribute the funds to its national network of food banks and food pantries, according to an Instagram⁣ post.

$100 million: Michael and Susan Dell, through their foundation, including $20 million to the COVID-19 Therapeutics Accelerator, and relief efforts focused on supporting health care, education, nonprofits and small businesses.

$100 million: Stavros Niarchos Foundation for food and health needs in the U.S., Africa and Europe. The Robin Hood Foundation received $2 million; emergency funds for artists and arts organizations received $800,000.

$100 million: Jeff Skoll to his foundation, to increase grant making in 2020,
focused on testing, contact-tracing and breathing-assistance
technologies for developing countries.

Bloomberg Philanthropies pledged $40 million to a global response fund and was part of a group that pledged $75 million to a New York City social impact fund. Other gifts include $10.5 million and staff support to a contact tracing program, $10 million to International Rescue Committee and $6 million to World Central Kitchen to serve meals at NYC Health + Hospitals facilities. Michael Bloomberg is founder and majority owner of Bloomberg LP, the parent company of Bloomberg News.

$75 million: Steve and Connie Ballmer, through the Ballmer Group, including $35 million to community-based lenders to address inequity of access for the Paycheck Protection Program, $10 million to University of Washington Medicine, and aid to southeast Michigan, Los Angeles County and Washington. They also participate in Blue Meridian Partners.

$56 million: Mary Oppenheimer and daughters to South Africa’s Solidarity Fund.

$46.4 million: Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, including $25 million to the Covid-19 Therapeutics Accelerator and $13.6 milion to research the spread of the disease in the Bay Area. Funds are also supporting undocumented immigrants in California and the Council of Chief State School Officers to address policy questions arising from long-term school closures.

$42 million: Carlos Slim Foundation for efforts in Mexico including sanitation in public hospitals, medical attention for the elderly and access to an online learning platform for primary school children developed by the foundation.$20 million: Leon and Debra Black, with $10 million to the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City, for food and supplies for healthcare workers, and the Red Cross aiding distribution. The Blacks also pledged to match up to $10 million in gifts to the “NYC Healthcare Heroes” program, with donations handled by the Robin Hood Foundation.

$20 million: Ken Griffin and partners of Citadel and Citadel Securities, for efforts in China, Chicago, New York and the U.K. Recipients include Greater Chicago Food Depository, Imperial College London, NYC COVID-19 Response & Impact Fund and Rockefeller University.$16 million: Duke of Westminster, Hugh Grosvenor, to support the U.K.’s public health system, medical research and charities helping Britain’s response to the pandemic.

$12 million: Vladimir Potanin Foundation, including assistance to senior citizens and the homeless.

$13 million: Laura and John Arnold’s Arnold Ventures pledged $10 million, including a grant to the Project on Government Oversight to push for transparency around distribution of stimulus funds. The Arnolds are also supporting relief efforts in cities including Houston and New Orleans.

$10 million: Phil Knight and former Nike Inc. executives, to Oregon nonprofits, including $7 million to Oregon Health & Science University for care coordination and expanded testing.

$6.5 million: Sheryl Sandberg and Tom Bernthal, including $5 million to CARE and the International Rescue Committee to support women and girls affected by the pandemic, and $1.5 million to YWCA domestic violence programs.

$5.3 million: Arthur Blank’s foundation to assist efforts in Atlanta and Montana, including $100,000 to the Atlanta Police Foundation.

$5 million: Brian and Aileen Roberts to purchase 50,000 laptops for Philadelphia school children.

$4 million: Ray and Barbara Dalio and Dalio Philanthropies, including $3 million to provide eight weeks of childcare for Connecticut hospital workers, and $500,000 to buy and distribute 14 trailers of food at 64 sites for those in need.

$2.65 million: David A. Tepper Charitable Foundation, including to a Covid-19 response fund started by the Foundation for the Carolinas and United Way of Central Carolinas; and toward the purchase of 6,000 mobile hotspots to assist students in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools.

$250,000: Dan and Jennifer Gilbert’s family foundation to the United Community Housing Coalition in Detroit for mortgage, rental and utility assistance. Quicken Loans and its Community Fund have also made gifts to aid Detroit.
