French Coronavirus Deaths Rise at Slowest Pace in Three Weeks

(Bloomberg) --

Deaths in France linked to coronavirus cases rose by 395 to 19,718, Director General for Health Jerome Salomon said in a press conference on Sunday, the slowest pace of increase since March 29.

France’s daily coronavirus figures have fluctuated amid inconsistent reporting from nursing homes, which were first included in the tally this month. The country is close to becoming the fourth nation to report more than 20,000 deaths from the virus, behind the U.S., Italy and Spain.

The number of people hospitalized due to the coronavirus fell for a fifth day to 30,610, while patients in intensive care dropped for an 11th day to 5,744.

“The confinement is working,” Prime Minister Edouard Philippe said in the press conference.
