Florida Says Arrivals From New York, New Jersey Must Isolate

(Bloomberg) -- Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said he is signing an executive order making it mandatory for all arrivals from New York and New Jersey to self-isolate for two weeks upon entering the state.

“That’s the only way that we can be sure that that virus is not going to be reintroduced in the State of Florida and then spread,” DeSantis said Monday.

DeSantis has repeatedly brought up concerns about New Yorkers, given Florida’s popularity among Northeasterners as a getaway. According to DeSantis, there was an immediate uptick in arrivals from New York after it implemented stay-at-home measures.

In Florida, DeSantis has shied away from a statewide shelter-in-place order, arguing that there are still large parts of the state that don’t have confirmed cases -- although that could change quickly.

DeSantis spoke to President Donald Trump about the matter Sunday, but the president has so far declined to institute domestic travel restrictions.
