Finland May Join Italy, Greece in Asking EU Passengers to Test
(Bloomberg) -- Finland’s government will discuss later on Thursday whether passengers from European Union countries should be required to present a certificate of a negative Covid-19 test upon arrival.
Choosing to do so would align the Nordic country with Italy and Greece in rejecting common rules for the bloc, as a response to fears about the fast-spreading omicron variant.
No decision has yet been taken, though the government already recommends EU travelers show a pre-arrival negative result, Krista Kiuru, minister overseeing pandemic response efforts, said at a news conference in Helsinki.
Fully vaccinated travelers from outside the EU and Schengen area will need to present a negative PCR or lateral flow test result from the preceding 48 hours starting Dec. 21, unless they are in transit within airports, Interior Minister Krista Mikkonen said. Arrivals from Denmark, Norway, the U.K. and a number of African countries will be subject to compulsory health checks.
