Euro-Area Consumer Confidence Plunges Most on Record

(Bloomberg) -- Euro-area consumer confidence saw a record slump in March as the coronavirus pandemic threatens to weigh on employment and household income. At minus 11.6, the gauge is now at its lowest since late 2014, when deflation fears ravaged the 19-nation bloc. The data -- published by the European Commission -- might not even fully capture the extent of the crisis as most responses were gathered before strict confinement measures were put into place.
