We’ve Said Everything There Is to Say on Brexit, EU Says

The European Commission said it can have no further meaningful comment on Brexit ahead of the key votes that U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May faces today in the British Parliament.
“We are following the parliamentary procedure in the United Kingdom,” Margaritis Schinas, spokesman for the commission, the European Union executive, told reporters in Brussels on Tuesday. “There is nothing that we can meaningfully say; actually we have said everything on all possible aspects,” he said.
“This is not a Brussels day; this is a London day,” Schinas said. “Let’s have the votes and then we’ll see.”
On the possibility of extending the transition period, Schinas said that all options are grounded in the EU treaties.
“The transition period is linked to the Withdrawal Agreement; the Withdrawal Agreement is linked to the treaties,” Schinas said. “The treaties determine the possibility or otherwise of an extension, and the means of achieving that. So we just follow the treaties on this,” he said.
“We haven’t yet received a request,” Schinas said. “There’s nothing new on the table. So don’t look to Brussels on this; look to London,” he said.
