Dubai Extends Restrictions on Movement of People to 24 Hours

(Bloomberg) --

Dubai imposed further restrictions on the movement of people and halted metro services as the Middle East’s business hub seeks to limit the spread of the coronavirus.

A program to clean the streets will be extended to 24 hours for two weeks from Saturday, Dubai’s media office said in a tweet. Supermarkets, pharmacies and food delivery services will continue operating, it said.

Legal action will be taken against violators and the measure is subject to renewal, it said.

The United Arab Emirates, of which Dubai is a part, had already restricted the movement of people between 8pm and 6am. The Gulf nation has reported 1,505 virus cases so far, including 241 new cases on Saturday.

Dubai will suspend metro and tram services from Sunday until further notice, Gulf News reported earlier.
