Disney’s Departing Chairman Iger Outearned CEO Chapek in 2021

Walt Disney Co.’s former Executive Chairman Bob Iger earned $45.9 million in total compensation in his final full year of employment, 40% more than Chief Executive Officer Bob Chapek.

Chapek, 62, who succeed Iger in February 2020, saw his pay more than double to $32.5 million for the year ended Oct. 2, according to a filing Wednesday. He and other Disney executives took pay cuts in 2020, when Covid-19 forced the company to shut its theme parks and lay off some 32,000 workers.

The past year has been a transitional one for the world’s largest entertainment company as Iger, 70, and a number of senior managers retired.

Four of the six most highly compensated executives at Disney last year no longer work there. Collectively, they earned nearly $80 million in 2021. In addition to Iger, they include the general counsel, head of human resources and chief communications officer. All have been replaced.
