Denmark Plans to Carry Out Random Coronavirus Testing

(Bloomberg) --

Denmark plans to carry out random testing for Covid-19 to get a clearer picture of the rate of infection in the Nordic country.

Thousands of people will receive an email from the government on Thursday asking them to volunteer for a test, even if they do not display any symptoms, Health Minister Magnus Heunicke told state broadcaster DR. In general, only people with symptoms have been able to get tested in Denmark.

The idea is to obtain a representative sample of the population to determine the presence of the virus across all age groups.

Denmark has so far been able to keep the coronavirus in check thanks to its early response and now plans to reopen shops, restaurants and bars as soon as Monday.
