De Blasio Says NYC Has a 10,000-Person Healthcare Reserve Corp

(Bloomberg) -- New York City can mobilize a group of about 10,000 health care workers including physicians, nurses and mental health professionals who’ve volunteered to support the city’s emergency response to the coronavirus outbreak, Mayor Bill De Blasio said.

The city normally has a standby corp of about 9,000 volunteers, de Blasio said during an interview on NY1 on Wednesday. “In less than 24 hours, 1,000 more people signed up,” he added.

New York City now has 1,871 cases of people who’d tested positive for the COVID-19 virus, he announced. Eleven people have died.
