Cuomo Says Trump, Pence Approved New York Running Its Own Testing

(Bloomberg) -- New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said he spoke with President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence today and they agreed to let the state run its own testing.

The approval means that by next week, New York will be able to perform 6,000 tests per day, which would be a “dramatic increase for us,” Cuomo said at a press briefing. To date, the state has tested about 3,200.

New York and Washington keep switching spots as the states with the highest cases in the country. New York is currently at the top with 421 cases, up 96 from the day before.

New York City cases went up 59 cases to 154, nearly catching up to the cluster in Westchester, which has 158.

Cuomo says his daughter was possible exposed and was in “precautionary quarantine” for 14 days. He said he is taking more precautions with his mother.

“I understand fully the anxiety that people feel,” Cuomo said.
