CIBC Hires Former Canadian Lawmaker Raitt as a Vice Chair

(Bloomberg) -- Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce hired former Conservative Party lawmaker Lisa Raitt as a vice-chair for global investment banking.

Raitt joins CIBC on Jan. 27 and will focus on developing and fostering senior-level client relationships and business development globally for CIBC’s capital markets division, the Toronto-based bank said Friday in a statement. She’ll be based in Toronto.

“Lisa’s experience leading key government portfolios coupled with her proven leadership capabilities in the private sector will offer unique value to our clients,” Roman Dubczak, CIBC’s global investment banking head, said Friday in the statement. “In a complex global economy, Lisa’s insights and perspective in major sectors including energy and infrastructure will help our clients build their businesses.”

Raitt was a Conservative cabinet minister under former Prime Minister Stephen Harper, holding ministerial positions in natural resources, labor and transport. During the period of Justin Trudeau’s Liberal-led government, she served as deputy leader of the official opposition and ran unsuccessfully for the Conservative Party leadership in 2017. She was defeated in the federal election in October.
