China Road Wins $134 Million Ivory Coast Bridge-Building Tender

(Bloomberg) -- China Road & Bridge Corp. won a tender for 77 billion CFA francs ($134 million) to build a bridge in the West African nation’s commercial capital, Abidjan.

The contract is part of the $700 million Cocody Bay precinct project, the presidency said in a statement published in the state-owned Fraternite Matin newspaper. Funded by the Islamic Development Bank, it will link Cocody to downtown Plateau and will bring to five the number of bridges in the economic capital of the world’s largest cocoa producer.

In May last year, China State Construction Engineering Corp. won a tender valued at 131 billion CFA francs to build a bridge linking Plateau with the western neighborhood of Yopougon across the Ebrie lagoon. Ivory Coast has since created a panel to monitor the execution of close to $6 billion of projects.
