California Intensive Care Patients Double, Deaths Top 100

(Bloomberg) -- California’s patients in intensive care more than doubled to 410 overnight as the coronavirus outbreak killed 101 in the state, Governor Gavin Newsom said.

The state needs 10,000 working ventilators, he said.

“You start doing the math this is now made more real,” he said in a Twitter broadcast.

Close to 90,000 tests have been done in the state, Newsom said, with 4,000 people waiting for the results to come back, though he expects most to be negative based on past results.

The state has 4,252 ventilators, of which 1,000 need to be refurbished he said. Billionaire Elon Musk got more than 1,200 ventilators for the state, he said, and 350 manufacturers have offered to help.
