Brookfield Employee in New York Tests Positive for Coronavirus

(Bloomberg) --

An employee at Brookfield Asset Management Inc.’s U.S. headquarters in New York has tested positive for the coronavirus, according to an internal memo.

The employee sought medical attention after feeling flu-like symptoms on Feb. 27 and was tested by a health practitioner who determined he didn’t have the coronavirus. The employee remained out of the office, located at 250 Vesey Street in Manhattan, with the exception of one hour on March 4.

“He then left the office after not feeling well. He was retested and results confirmed today that he was positive for Covid-19,” Brian Kingston, head of Brookfield’s real estate group, said in the memo.

“In an abundance of caution, we are taking several steps to ensure the health and safety of our employees and all our tenants,” he added.

Brookfield is asking anyone who sat on the same side of the floor where the employee’s desk is and those with compromised immune systems to work from home for the time being. It is also sanitizing common areas every two hours and doing a deep clean of the floor where the employee sits, the memo said.
