Boston, But Not New York, Is in Line for Next East Coast Storm

(Bloomberg) -- Boston has a roughly 50-50 chance of getting hit with its third round of snow in eight days as a nor’easter sweeps up from the Mid-Atlantic next week. New York, however, isn’t in the line of fire.

Forecast models suggest Virginia and Maryland could also see snow before the storm moves into the ocean and heads north toward Massachusetts, where it may hit late Monday or early Tuesday, said Brian Hurley, a senior branch forecaster at the U.S. Weather Prediction Center in College Park, Maryland. There aren’t official snowfall predictions yet, but a few heavy and wet inches could fall.

“If it goes along the consensus of the models, then I think New York gets spared,” Hurley said. “We will get a lot more clarity in 24 hours, but in most scenarios it would be more of a Boston and eastern New England event.”

The upside for Boston is the storm probably won’t be as powerful as the last two. A March 2 nor’easter left at least 2 million without power from Ohio to Maine. This week’s tempest dropped snow by the foot from Pennsylvania to New England.
