Boko Haram Killed 14 People in a Village in Chad, Governor Says

(Bloomberg) -- Boko Haram is believed to have killed 14 fishermen in a village near Kaiga in the west of Chad, the governor of the Lake Chad province, Niki Charfadine, told reporters.

“We know that it’s always Boko Haram elements that scour this area, they are therefore behind this attack,” said Charfadine.

Attacks by Boko Haram insurgents have left tens of thousands of people dead since the beginning of a violent campaign in 2009 in Nigeria to impose its own version of Islamic law. The violence has also spilled into neighboring Cameroon, Chad and Niger.

The attack took place in an area that’s been declared insecure, the governor said.
