BMO Capital Markets Hires Ex-Trudeau Minister as Vice-Chairman

(Bloomberg) -- Bank of Montreal has hired Scott Brison, a former Nova Scotia lawmaker who left Justin Trudeau’s cabinet last month after two decades in politics.

BMO Capital Markets announced the move in a statement Thursday, saying his role as vice-chairman for investment and corporate banking will include “senior client coverage and business development.”

Brison was first elected under the Progressive Conservative Party before crossing the floor to the Liberals in 2003, and served in several cabinet posts including his last position as head of the Treasury Board. He is also a former executive at Yorkton Securities.

“Scott’s tenure in the Canadian government, combined with his deep knowledge of global economic issues and his experience in the private sector as an entrepreneur and investment banker, make him a valued addition to our firm,” Peter Myers, global head of investment and corporate banking, said in the statement.

Brison will be based in Toronto. His departure from politics triggered a cabinet shuffle that moved Jody Wilson-Raybould from her job as justice minister to veterans affairs. She quit that post this week amid questions about whether Trudeau’s office pressured her to help SNC-Lavalin Group Inc. settle corruption charges out of court.
