Banks See Website Issues As Users Log In For Government Payouts

(Bloomberg) --

Banks across the U.S. reported website and mobile app log-in issues on Wednesday as Americans logged into their bank accounts to check if they have received their stimulus payments from the government.

The combined bank of BB&T and SunTrust, Truist, apologized to its clients in a tweet, saying it was working to resolve digital and mobile banking access issues. Fifth Third Bank and Alliant Credit Union also said they were having issues.

Outage monitoring site Downdetector said there were issues with Wells Fargo, Chase and Citi, among others. The site also reported the website of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) was having problems.

More than 6.2 million taxpayers have successfully received their payments as of mid-day, the IRS said on its website. The tax collection agency also said information on its app that provided payment status updates was updated only once a day and said there was no need for users to check in more frequently.
