Bahrain Stresses It Backs Two State Solution in Pompeo Meeting

Bahrain’s ruler said his country is committed to a two-state solution to resolve the Israel-Palestinian conflict amid speculation the Gulf kingdom will normalize ties with the Jewish state.

King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa in a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo stressed the need to redouble efforts to end the conflict and establish a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, state-run Bahrain News Agency reported.

The United Arab Emirates reached an agreement with Israel this month to begin normalizing relations, joining Egypt and Jordan as the only Arab countries to do so. Bahrain’s cabinet last week praised the pact as “historic.”

Pompeo was in Israel and Sudan this week as part of an outreach. He also set to travel to the UAE.
