Australia’s Treasurer Tested for Coronavirus After Coughing Fit
(Bloomberg) -- Australian Treasurer Josh Frydenberg has tested negative for the coronavirus after having a coughing fit during a speech in parliament on Tuesday.
The treasurer was advised to take a test and go into isolation “out of an abundance of caution” after having to pause his speech on the economic impact of the virus Tuesday for about a minute due to coughing. Frydenberg said in a tweet early Wednesday that the result came back negative.
Australian lawmakers returned to parliament on Tuesday for a trial three-day sitting, with around half the elected officials attending with social-distancing restrictions.
The government on Friday announced steps to start relaxing lockdown restrictions and open up sections of the economy after the nation reduced the daily growth rate of new cases to about 0.2%
Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton caught the virus earlier this year. He has recovered.
