Australia’s McCardel Sets English Channel Record With 44 Swims
(Bloomberg) -- Australia’s Chloe McCardel broke the record for the most English Channel crossings with her 44th swim on Wednesday.
The 36-year-old completed her latest successful attempt in a time of 10 hours and 1 minute, according to the Channel Swimming Association. She started from Samphire Hoe outside Dover in South East England and ended near the Cap Gris-Nez on France’s northwestern coast.
McCardel surpassed the previous record of Alison Streeter, which had stood for 17 years since she completed her last crossing in 2004 at the age of 39, according to the Marathon Swimmers Federation database. Kevin Murphy holds the men’s record at 34 crossings.
