Assange Extradition Ruling to Be Given in January, Court Says

A ruling in Julian Assange’s extradition trial is expected in January 2021, a London court said.

The five-week trial, which included allegations of spying, a planned kidnapping and a promised plea deal, concluded Thursday. A decision will be given by Westminster Magistrates Court Jan. 4, WikiLeaks said.

The WikiLeaks founder is accused of conspiring to obtain and disclose classified documents passed to him by former U.S. Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning. Those documents, including State Department cables and reports on the military action in Iraq and Afghanistan, were published by WikiLeaks in 2010 and 2011.

Assange was arrested in April 2019 at the Ecuadorian embassy after taking refuge there in 2012.
