Around 100 Nigeria Soldiers Killed by Jihadists, Reuters Reports

(Bloomberg) -- Militants from the Islamic State West Africa group killed around 100 soldiers in northeast Nigeria since Sunday, Reuters reported, citing security sources it didn’t identify.

Many of the soldiers died in an attack Sunday in Metele, in Borno state, the agency said Thursday.

Boko Haram Islamist fighters have waged a violent campaign in Nigeria’s northeast since 2009 to impose their version of Islamic law on Africa’s most populous country of almost 200 million people. The group’s attacks have left tens of thousands of people dead. One of Boko Haram’s factions is affiliated with Islamic State.

Army spokesman Texas Chukwu did not respond to calls and a text message seeking comment.
