Arizona Virus Cases Jump 5.1%, Double the Prior 7-Day Average

Arizona health authorities reported 3,056 new cases of Covid-19 on Thursday, a 5.1% increase that brought the total to 63,030. That was more than double the prior seven-day average of 2.3%.

The number of people admitted to the hospital with Covid-19 jumped by 183 to 2,453, the biggest single-day increase since the state began tracking the number, according to Arizona Department of Health Services data.

For the second-straight day, 88% of intensive-care beds were in use. Of the 1,495 beds in use, 611 were filled by Covid-19 patients.

The number of deaths rose by 27, bringing the state’s toll to 1,490 people.
