Afghanistan’s Army Misses Taliban Target, Kills 23 Civilians

Afghanistan’s army missed a Taliban target it was aiming for, and instead killed and wounded civilians in a mortar attack on Monday, the United Nations said.

The “lethal mortars” were fired at a market in Sangin district of Helmand province, according to the UN report.

The attack killed 23 civilians and wounded 45 others, according to a separate finding by Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission.
