Abbott Laboratories won approval for its antibody test for Covid-19 from public health bodies in England and Wales.
As many as 5 million tests can be provided to the U.K. each month with immediate effect, the company said in a statement. Abbott has already started shipping the product to National Health Service laboratories.
U.K. test demonstrated a specificity of between 99.73% to 100%, according to the statement.
Test identifies a protein that the body produces in the late stages of infection and may remain for months or even years after recovery.
Roche Holding AG’s antibody test was cleared by U.K. health authorities earlier this month.
