Boycott Finally Ends for Shops That Sold Ivanka Trump’s Label

(Bloomberg) -- The demise of Ivanka Trump’s fashion line ends a long saga for the many retailers who sold her dresses, purses and jewelry: They’ve finally been removed as boycott targets.

“Retailers like Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, and Lord & Taylor that still carry the Ivanka Trump line will be removed from the #GrabYourWallet boycott list,” said Shannon Coulter, co-founder of the movement. “Although we will be making a note that they failed to divest from the Trump brand prior to Ivanka’s company being shut down.”

Coulter’s group was the most prominent in calling for the boycott of Ivanka Trump’s business. National Public Radio reported last year that #GrabYourWallet’s online spreadsheet gets more than two million views a month.

Retailers have been caught in the boycott crossfire since the early days of Donald Trump’s presidential campaign. Some were targeted by protesters and activists on both sides of the political aisle. The fervor over Ivanka Trump’s brand peaked in the spring of 2017, when Nordstrom chose to stop selling the label.

Anti-Trump demonstrators protested Macy’s sale of Ivanka Trump merchandise even as Trump supporters denounced the department store for dropping Donald Trump’s suits. TJ Maxx removed all Ivanka Trump signage, and online listings for her products disappeared from websites like Belk, Burlington Coat Factory and ShopStyle.

Amazon will remain a target of the anti-Trump boycott campaign, said Coulter. It still stocks and ships Donald Trump’s suit label.
