You Can Teach an Old Car Company New Tricks

On What'd You Miss This Week, Joe Weisenthal, Scarlet Fu and Julia Chatterley spoke with Sam Abuelsamid, Senior Research Analyst at Navigant about how technology funds and auto companies are teaming up in the race for autonomous vehicles. Softbank just made a $2.25 billion dollar bet on GM's driverless unit Cruise, and Sam explained why an old school car company actually has an edge in this space over their Silicon Valley competitors. He told us most people would be surprised to learn just how long GM has been working on driverless technology.

Marc Chandler, Head of Currency Strategy at Brown Brothers Harriman Global, also joined to walk us through Europe's wild geopolitical week of government reshuffling in Spain and Italy and all of the investor anxiety that came with it.

Then Paul McNamara, GAM Investment Director came on to discuss emerging markets, how the lira fared this week after the Turkish central bank's emergency intervention, and why he sees both Russia and Colombia as currency opportunities.
