Two Women Kill Six Others in Nigerian Suicide Bomb Attack

(Bloomberg) -- Two women killed themselves and six others in a bomb attack in northeastern Nigeria on Thursday, according to government officials and witnesses.

They detonated explosives strapped to their bodies at around midday in the village of Amarwa, 10 miles from Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state, according to resident Babagana Modu. The head of rescue operations for Borno’s emergency management agency, Bello Dambatta, confirmed the deaths and said another 14 people were being treated in hospital for injuries.

Borno is the epicenter of an insurgency by Islamist group Boko Haram that has killed more than 20,000 people since 2009. While the government has said several times that the group is all but defeated, it continues to carry out suicide and hit-and-run attacks.
