CBS Taps Correspondent Glor to Succeed Pelley as News Anchor

(Bloomberg) -- CBS, looking to improve the ratings of its third-ranked evening newscast, said correspondent Jeff Glor will take over as anchor, succeeding Scott Pelley, who stepped down from the role in May.

Glor, 42, was a lead anchor on CBSN, the network’s 24/7 streaming news service, during its launch. He will maintain a prominent presence on the digital streaming channel, according to a statement Wednesday. The “CBS Evening News with Jeff Glor” will launch by the end of the year, the company said.

The network, while ranking most-watched in entertainment, has fallen to a distant third in the ratings for nightly newscasts, according to Nielsen data. The show has attracted 6.22 viewers a night in the new TV season that started in September, compared with 8.42 million for ABC.

Anthony Mason, interim anchor of the “CBS Evening News,” will continue as News senior national correspondent and co-host of “CBS This Morning: Saturday.”
