EU May Propose Raising 2030 Energy Savings Goal to 30%

(Bloomberg) -- The European Union’s regulatory arm may propose increasing the bloc’s 2030 energy efficiency target to 30 percent from at least 27 percent agreed by the bloc’s leaders under a climate pact for the next decade, according to a document obtained by Bloomberg News.

The European Commission, which plans to put forward a package of measures on energy savings in October, is also considering making the goal binding, a draft of the planned law showed. Both the number and the word “binding” are in square brackets in the text, meaning they may be subject to revision before the proposal is published.

The commission has a policy of not commenting on confidential documents.
