South Africa’s ANC Candidate Elected Mayor of Ekurhuleni Council

(Bloomberg) -- South Africa’s African National Congress kept control of industrial hub Ekurhuleni, giving the ruling party management of one of the three major city councils in the nation’s richest province, Gauteng.

Mzwandile Masina of the ANC was elected after the party’s Patricia Kumalo earlier won the position of speaker of the municipality, which is east of Johannesburg and includes the nation’s main airport. Masina has served as deputy trade and industry minister since May 2014. The candidates of the opposition Democratic Alliance were elected to lead the councils of the capital, Pretoria, and the economic hub, Johannesburg.
