Wild Swings Make S&P 500 More Volatile Than Devil's Metal: Chart

(Bloomberg) -- For the first time in more than 15 years, volatility in stocks has eclipsed that of silver, known as the devil’s metal because of its susceptibility to wild moves. Fears of a global growth slowdown stoked by weak manufacturing data, Apple Inc.’s guidance cut on Wednesday and political gridlock have produced swings in the S&P 500 Index over 120 days more gut-churning than silver futures.
