Senior Actis Dealmaker Newington to Leave After Major Expansion

(Bloomberg) -- Andrew Newington, a top Actis LLP dealmaker who led a major expansion of the emerging markets-focused private equity firm, is leaving after nearly five years.

Newington, who’s chief investment officer at Actis, will depart in the second half of the year and will help with the transition, a representative for the London-based firm said in a statement.

In 2018, he led the acquisition of Standard Chartered Plc’s Asian real estate business. Newington also oversaw a deal last year for Actis to take over management of two funds from Abraaj Group, the Middle East’s biggest private equity firm, which collapsed amid allegations of missing investor capital.

Actis has more than 200 employees across 17 offices, including about 120 investment professionals, according to its website. The firm has raised more than $15 billion since its inception and manages $12 billion of assets, the website shows.

Newington had been with Actis since 2015. He previously spent 13 years at private equity firm BC Partners, including time as co-head of their London office.
